I want to write a program which can be able to send smses. Is this possible with java card/SIM toolkit?

Yes, you can do this without problem. If fact SMS sending/receiving is maybe the strongest feature of SIM Toolkit, e.g. you can send SMS so that user doesn't know about it. On our site you can find many applications using SMS, e.g. SMSPal.

Hi pz,
Thanks a lot for your immediate response.
Actually my requirement is to send a SMS to the mobile operator, containing the IMIE of the phone. This should happen only when the mobile user switch on his/her mobile phone. Also it should be automatically genareted SMS so that user doesn't know about it.

Any additional comments/references are appreciated regarding this requirement.

Yes, possible. Not all but most mobiles (>95%) support STK access to IMEI - byte 4, bit 7 in TERMINAL PROFILE has to be 1, i.e. Proactive SIM: PROVIDE LOCAL INFO (MCC, MNC, LAC, CellID, IMEI is supported.
