I came across research research by In-Stat http://www.instat.com/press.asp?ID=1505&sku=IN0502036MBD

In a few words the message is that wireless telemetry market is possibly bigger than wireless voice. One of the major problems that inhibit installation of wireless telemery solutions is high cost of telemetry devices.

And here we have wonderful Turbo Lite 2/TurboSIM products at 49-59 euros. When buying in thousands costs can go much much lower, I believe. But TurboLite 2 is not enough - you have to put it together with a gprs/gsm card (it costs around 100 euros, I guess. Do you know cheaper solutions) into some kind of box. And we'll have a wireless telemetry solution for something like 160 euros. If one buys in bulk, I believe cost/1 telemetry device can go as low as 80 euros.

There are several major telemetry services providers:
* Aeris
* Numerex
* Itron
* Cellnet Technology

I don't know their price points. Do you know?

So what business models can be built on top of Turbo Lite/TurboSim?

I'll be posting my findings here.

Here's price list of modules neccesary to built complete M2M unit.

http://www.roundsolutions.com/pdf/Round%20Price-GSM%2BAcc-Euros.pdf

I wonder if TurboLite 2 can be attached to one of their units - GM862-GPRS.

Pavel, I'd like know what components are to be put together to make a fully functional telemetry unit. Here's my list:

1. TurboLite 2.
2. GSM/GPRS modem.
3. RS-232 cable.
4. Antenna.
5. Powersupply.
6. Box/enclosure.

Anything else?

Here's one example of such device

http://www.amplicon.co.uk/dr-prod3.cfm/subsecid/10161/secid/4/groupId/12335.htm

The cost is, uh, quite high 299 pounds (makes 418 euros), and they still call it "low cost device".

I think you don't need the rs232 cable. TL2 just with a mdem will do (or just a phone,
of course - cheaper, no need for antenna).

Or you can use Turbo Motion 2 and conenct it also via rs232 cable, then you can control the modem with AT commands too, e.g.access embedded GPS.

Yes, this has been predicted for a long time, there are more machines than humans. One of the issues are sensors, gsm+turbo can be easy/cheap.

I think Siemens XT55 could be about 100EUR, maybe cheaper. It has also GPS.
