Hi,

I would like to extract the timing advance for the current serving cell using provide_ta().

However, I have some concerns about the validity or 'freshness' of the TA value returned. Alas, I cannot find answers anywhere, includding the TS specs.

What I would like to know is whether the TA value returned by provide_ta( ) (i.e. by the phone via the STK) is the _actual_ TA at the time the call is made.

Or, is the TA value retuned, the last TA value negotiated by the phone in that cell?

If provide_ta() does return 'stale' TA values, is there a way to use the STK to 'ping' the seving cell to get an up-to-date TA ?

Thanks

Hi pinkfoot

Have you checked this web site: http://www.gsmfordummies.com/timing/timing.shtml From what i understand from their article, ta will be updated if you move 553.5 meters from your current position otherwise last updated ta will be used
